In a study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2010, it was found that massage can boost a patient’s white blood cell count, which also contributes to the body’s ability to fight off disease. As another benefit, de Miranda says that it also “improves the immune function of HIV-positive individuals.”
Headaches are relieved by it
If you suffer from a headache in the future, you may want to consider booking a last-minute massage. According to de Miranda, massage reduces the frequency and severity of tension headaches. A recent study from the University of Granada in Spain found that a single session of massage therapy immediately reduced pain perception in patients with chronic tension headaches.
